The Vraa Stool is a sculptural and functional chair that bridges past and present, local craftsmanship and responsible use of materials. The piece draws inspiration from Danish Peasant Furniture used by the rural communities between 1500-1900 in Denmark but reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Rooted in tradition, the Vraa Stool is named after the Danish word ‘vraa’, meaning a corner. The chair is therefore having a clear sense of direction with one corner of the seat pointing forward. The project is a special collaboration with the fashion company AF AGGER to develop a piece of furniture that aligns with the company’s goal of reducing textile waste from the clothing industry. Incorporating the atmosphere and aesthetics of AF AGGER’s universe and design principles, Vraa Stool is representing beautiful leftover textiles from previous collections of AF AGGER, giving new life and value to materials that would otherwise go to waste. Created and envisioned as an inviting and sculptural piece for the home, the intention with Vraa Stool is also to create more functionality in the chair. Beyond its visual presence, the stool conceals a hidden storage room to offer a multi-functional element for modern living spaces.
