“The sculptures are part of a typology in my work that I call Nymphs of Vingerling. Each nymph has its own unique name, such as Tir, Ort, or Mal. I think of these names almost as sounds emerging from the sculptures themselves: the call of a strange animal, the sound of nature, or a symbol in an alphabet, a rune, an incantation. The pair of Nivå Nymphs are named Ru and Ca, meaning red and blue — the two types of earthenware traditionally used in brickmaking.
The nymphs all begin from the same starting point: an extruded clay cylinder that I bend and model into form. The process is a collaboration between the material’s unpredictable folding and my own decisions, composing a randomness that is never the same twice”
