“As a tapestry weaver I have specialized in digital jacquard weaving and I’m interested in how this new technology allows for a revitalization of the craft of tapestry weaving. Historically the medium has been used in an almost cartoon-like way to tell stories of the time they are woven. In my practice I am interested in how the medium can be used for communicating contempoaray themes, such as the boundaries between the human and more-than-human world. This is also the case for LOOM CONTROL (II).
For me the process of a new work is always a dialogue between analogue and digital. I first begin with analogue drawing and sketching. It’s a very free and intuitive way of working, and at some point I digitalize the material and continue drawing on the computer. Then code the drawings with the weave binds and transform them into files of only black and white pixels readable for the digital loom. At last I move to the loom and weave the work by hand with shuttles and yarns as on any other loom”
