Sia Hurtigkarl
Sia Hurtigkarl is a Copenhagen-based designer working with objects, textiles, and installations.
The selected work draws visual inspiration from Nivågaard Ringovn and its decades of brick production. The pieces explore the contrast between a central circular form and several squared “bricks,” bound together by a woven element. These components come together as two functional objects — a tray and a magazine holder — crafted from rattan, ash wood, and veneer.
“While I explore a variety of materials, textile techniques remain central to my visual language and material approach. I often use tools and methods traditionally associated with textiles — such as softening, splitting, or weaving materials — to introduce strength, flexibility, or structure to an object. For this exhibition, I have explored wicker techniques, working with woven rattan and refined wooden elements. The woven rattan connects the loose wooden components, adding strength to the construction and identity to the object.”
