“For me, the material is the focus. The form is derived from the historical use of earthenware for bricks and from Nivå Ringovn as the exhibition space. Material testing is the most exciting part of any project for me. It’s how I understand the reactions and development of the material — in color, shape, and agency.
I haven’t fired the pieces yet, so the materiality is still subject to change — almost as if it has free will — but just enough for the form to be reshaped slightly by the material. I’ve also enriched the fresh (Danish) earthenware with crushed bricks, which stabilizes the clay and reuses discarded bricks, limiting the use of new material.”
